Solar panel floating on pools of water

In this project, solar panels floating on the surface of water / fish ponds both generate electricity and shade the water. Such facilities enable dual use of limited space; Quality protein production and renewable energy in the same place.

Floating solar panels provide several advantages:

– The production of electricity can be up to ten percent above that of terrestrial solar installations due to the reflection of the water surface.
– Protection of young fish from predators.
– Reducing water temperatures, and improving ventilation, resulting in a significant reduction in fish mortality rates.
– Reduced water temperature reduces CO2 and CH4 emissions.
– Reduced evaporation means less water is pumped and consumed.
Lakes and ponds are significant sources of both carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4). Warmer water means increased emissions. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimated that reservoirs and lakes account for 22% of total methane emissions worldwide.
